The Passing of Actor Roscoe Lee Brown

Award-winning actor Roscoe Lee Brown died in Los Angeles last week after a long fight with cancer. Many may not recognize his name, but his voice was impossible to forget.
Brown did everything from Shakespeare to animation. He had a distinguished history in theater, receiving an Obie Award in 1965 for his role as a rebellious slave in the off-Broadway production of Benito Cereno.
In 1972, Brown co-starred in the movie The Cowboys with John Wayne. Many critics thought his character was unbelievable because he was too articulate for the role.
Although he started out in theater, television also provided steady work for Brown. He often played distinguished characters, like the lawyer who was stuck in the elevator with Archie Bunker on the sitcom All in the Family.

Brown also had a love for poetry. He even performed some of his work in the stage piece Behind the Broken Words.
