Every year, it seems the holiday season starts a little earlier, which for music fans means hearing the same old Christmas songs on repeat, over and over. Some songs evoke warm nostalgia for family and childhood, some use humor and some are just plain fun. And then there are the holiday tunes sure to curdle your eggnog.

Which brings us to Jim Nayder, host of The Annoying Music Show! — produced at Chicago Public Radio and carried on local stations that seemingly thumb their nose at the notion of a fairness doctrine. In honor of the holiday season, Nayder spoke with Weekend Edition host Scott Simon about particularly annoying Christmas songs, including music from Timmy Christmas, The Chipmunks and even Bob Dylan's recent foray into holiday music, Christmas in the Heart.

"I think we're being held hostage having to listen to it," Nayder says of Dylan's record. "We've gotten more e-mails saying 'You've gotta do a special.' Some say Bob Dylan is the worst, and then they say there are others that are more annoying."
