If you thought it seemed a bit presumptuous on the part of Disney to file for trademark rights for the name "SEAL Team 6" a day after the elite Navy unit killed Osama bin Laden earlier this month, you weren't alone. Disney has withdrawn its application for rights to the name after the Navy stepped in to request that it keep the trademark, reports The Sacramento Bee. Disney originally requested permission to use the name SEAL Team 6 on May 3 for "everything from entertainment, toys, video games, clothing, footwear -- even Christmas ornaments and snow globes," according to KCOP. The Bee notes that the company even thought about developing a TV show based on the elite Navy unit.

Ultimately, said the Bee: "Disney/ABC spokesman Kevin Brockman says the company pulled the plug on its bid in deference to the Navy's application."

This is all for the best, because the irony would have been lost on no one if Disney attempted to capitalize on the Navy's accomplishment by boning the very same Navy out of its seemingly rightful trademark. Way to put patriotism over capitalism (for once), Disney.
