Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

The time has nearly come for Metro to implement some bus service changes and cuts approved by the transit agency back in March. Explaining that the changes will "improve the efficiency and effectiveness of bus service through better use of resources," Metro has released details about the bus lines that will be discontinued, as well as increased service on some other lines, all of which go into effect June 26th.

The basics:

Five weekday bus lines will be discoutinued (Lines 247, 335, 445, 634 and 902) and weekend service on five lines will be discontinued (Lines 485, 751, 757, 760 and 794). New Line 180 bus shuttle replaces Line 485 late night service and Metro will increase bus service on Lines 35, 60, 94, 205, 207, 251, 450X and the Metro Silver Line.

Metro has been championing its rail service lately, and points to decreased ridership on their bus lines as being one reason for making cuts.

With a goal of increasing ridership overall, Metro recently announced they were not only rolling back the Day Pass price to $5, but will also, at long last, use rolling dates for monthly and weekly passes. Those changes will happen in August.
