LAUSD has received a gift of one millllliion dollars from the Wasserman Foundation, a group that supports efforts and organizations involved in health, culture, education and global initiatives. The grant will be used for implementation of four district initiatives: Using Data to Drive Standards Based Instruction, Supporting All Employees, Budgeting for Student Achievement, and Creating and Supporting Quality Schools.

We also hope to see the grant, or others like it, help uphold the district's recent commitment to healthier foods in school cafeterias.

In a statement, Casey Wasserman, President and CEO of the Wasserman Foundation said, “We must take advantage of this unique moment in time—the confluence of an energetic new Los Angeles Superintendent and a national willingness to move our public education system into the 21st century."

The Wasserman Foundation is a private family foundation, and is based in L.A.
