Lamar Odom's Condition Has Deteriorated, Sources Say
Update: Sources are now saying that Lamar Odom has opened his eyes and is communicating.
Since Lamar Odom was discovered unconscious at a Nevada brothel on Tuesday, sources say that the former forward for the Clippers and Lakers is not showing any signs of improvement, and that his estranged wife Khloé Kardashian has the tough job of having to make medical decisions for him.
Sources told TMZ that the 35-year-old former NBA star's condition has deteriorated, and that he is still unconscious. They also say that doctors have told family members that if Odom's condition doesn't improve, then it is lowers his chances of survival. There were other reports that said four of his organs, including his kidneys, had failed, and that Odom had strokes and heart problems. It's likely he has suffered some brain damage as well.
Nye County Sheriff's Dept. held a news conference on Wednesday, where authorities released the 9-1-1- calls from the employees of the Love Ranch South in Pahrump, Nevada, according to US Weekly. One employee said that Odom had taken "a bunch" of sexual performance drugs called Reload, and that Odom had done cocaine on Saturday. Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly said that Odom had taken 10 tabs of these supplements over the course of three days. Two years ago, the FDA issued a warning about Reload, saying it contains a hidden drug ingredient that could lower blood pressure to dangerous levels.
Employees on the calls reported when they found Odom unresponsive around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, which was the fourth day he was at the brothel, he was on his bed lying on his side, and there was a pinkish fluid coming out of his nose and mouth. Wehrly said that "he was unconscious but breathing and had blood coming from his nose and mouth along with a white substance."
Odom was rushed to a local hospital before he was taken to Sunrise Hospital in Vegas.
Brothel owner Dennis Hof told CNN that Odom called him on Saturday, telling him that he wanted to say at the brothel for a few days. "He was having a good time at the ranch and everything was great," Hof said, but noticed that on Sunday Odom appeared "a bit somber" because people were "calling and bothering him."
He added that police didn't find any illegal drugs on Odom. "To my knowledge, there were no drugs involved," Hof told CNN. "Lamar was eating well and was just healthy."
Kardashian, Odom's 31-year-old estranged wife, has been by his side since he was hospitalized. Though the two signed divorce papers in July, they are still legally married because a judgment hasn't been made in court yet. And because of that, sources close to the family told PEOPLE that Kardashian is in charge of making medical decisions for Odom, and it's been hard on her.
"She never dreamed that she'd have these responsibilities, and it's just so overwhelming and unexpected," the source said. "She had been thinking of him as an ex, so to find out that, 'No, you have to do this.' Well that's really hard for her."
Kardashian's family members have been taking to social media over the past couple of days asking people to pray for Odom:
Update 2:45 p.m.: In regards to fellow Lakers player Kobe Bryant visiting Odom in the Las Vegas hospital, rapper Master P is accusing him of being a "phony." He told TMZ that Odom really wanted to return to the NBA and that Bryant should have done something about it. "If Kobe was his friend ... Kobe, like, owns the team. He could've got the man back on the team ... that's all he wanted."
Bryant tweeted this message today:
