Vigil set for 85-year-old beaten to death in downtown LA
A vigil was scheduled Wednesday night for the downtown Los Angeles community to gather and remember Dong Yul Lee near the spot where he was killed on April 2.
The 85-year-old downtown resident was beaten to death, seemingly at random, by a mentally unstable transient. Moses LaFawn Parker approached Lee and allegedly punched and kicked Lee without warning, then stomped on his head as he lay on the sidewalk. The attack was stopped by a security guard from the nearby Whole Foods.
Lee died at about 6 a.m. on Monday, April 11. Parker, who is being held on bail of $1.055 million, has been charged with murder.
The vigil was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at the northeast corner of 8th and Olive streets in downtown L.A.
