'Twin Peaks' is back! Here's what you need to know
Laura Palmer, even dead, is a woman of her word.
She said she'd see us in 25 years. And in 2016, a quarter century after "Twin Peaks" fire-walked away from television sets and movie theaters, Showtime is resurrecting David Lynch's cult property for nine new episodes, stylishly poised to traumatize a new generation.

Deadline Hollywood reports that "Twin Peaks" — the early 1990s, two-season, psychosexual surrealfest that grew a devout following from its wildly fertile, network, prime-time garden plot — will pick up on Showtime in present day:
The new Twin Peaks will be set in the present day, more than two decades after the events in the first two seasons. It will continue the lore and story of the original series, with Lynch and [Mark] Frost committed to providing long-awaited answers and, hopefully, a satisfying conclusion to the series...Showtime will [also] re-air the first two seasons of the series.

"THE OWLS ARE NOT WHAT THEY SEEM"
In speaking with Variety, show co-creator Mark Frost would not elaborate on plot details but said that some story bits "baked in to the last episode" would be picked up.
He called it “the next chapter of the story” and said that the passage of 25 years will be an important element in the plot.
"THAT GUM YOU LIKE IS GOING TO COME BACK IN STYLE"
A Deadline Q&A with Frost revealed how he and Lynch changed their minds about "revisiting the cult ABC supernatural mystery drama," and also that Lynch and Frost will co-write all episodes, and that Lynch is set to direct. Whether the series will be a previously envisioned third season or a brand new storyline has not been revealed. Information about returning characters was also difficult to pin down:
DEADLINE: Which characters from the original series will make a return?
FROST: I think the fans would like to see and we would like to see as many of the old familiar faces as possible and a lot of new faces as well. We are going to keep that in mind as we start to work and hopefully everybody’s story will get some attention.
DEADLINE: What about Kyle MacLachlan’s Agent Cooper who was at the heart of the ABC series?
FROST: We hope to have more to say about that soon. I think you’ll have the answer to that sooner rather than later.

On a musical note, Angelo Badalamenti's score-heavy soundtracks were reported last winter in development for a vinyl reissue on Death Waltz. Elsewhere, Brooklyn label, Sacred Bones, reported they had "unearthed" a number of CD copies of the rare second season soundtrack.

MacLachlan teased the announcement from his Twitter account.

"DAMN GOOD COFFEE. AND HOT."
And, acknowledging the high-test absurdity of its rental revelation, Curbed LA reports on an opportunity to drink endless coffee while watching the new Twin Peaks from the comfort of Kyle MacLachlan's actual couch. The blurred line of brewed reality will go to the lucky renter of his $20K per month, fully-furnished, Cahuenga Pass pad.
"In what is either a completely meaningless coincidence or evidence of some very Lynchean supernatural forces once again guiding the real estate market, actor and Twin Peaks lead Kyle MacLachlan and his Project Runway executive producer wife Desiree Gruber have decided to rent out their Hollywood Hills home..."
