‘Gnomeo and Juliet’ tops weekend box office
On Oscar weekend, the numbers at the box office were pretty low.
With all the glitz and glamour of the Academy Awards, this weekend the box office didn’t really shine. The Disney animated "Gnomeo and Juliet" reached the top spot with more than $14 million. The lighthearted movie featuring garden gnomes in 3D playing the love story is in its third weekend out.
The movie beat a couple of new releases. The raunchy comedy “Hall Pass” featuring Owen Wilson came in second with just over $13 million.
Liam Nieeson’s “Unknown” is in third place. This weekend’s other new release, the Nic Cage 3D action film "Drive Angry" drove in just over $5 million to open ninth.
