Firefighters go through wildfire training exercises at Camp Pendleton
Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. But at Camp Pendleton this week, it’s a good thing - part of wildfire training.
The northern San Diego County base is hosting a wildfire training drill for about 50 local, state and federal firefighting agencies. The Orange County Fire Authority’s among them.
The “live fire” training sessions are taking part on the eastern edge of the base. The “fire school” not only clears some brush from the base, but also gives firefighters a chance to learn how to better size up and attack a wildfire.
The fires are really small, so each crew has a chance to try an initial attack several times a day. The wildfire training runs through next Friday, June 17.
