A man suspected of wounding his wife committed suicide during a police standoff in Orange today.

Joseph Jacobo, 44, was found dead inside his home at 1650 N. Fern Ave. some seven hours after wounding his wife in a domestic dispute, Orange police Sgt. Dan Adams said.

Police got an emergency call about a domestic dispute about 8 p.m. Sunday, and the dispatcher heard gunshots in the background, Adams said.

When officers arrived at the house, they saw a wounded woman and two children emerging from a side gate. The woman, who had been shot in the face and an arm, was taken to a hospital, where she was reported to have stable vital signs.

A SWAT team was called, and a standoff ensued.

About 3:15 a.m., SWAT officers entered the house and found Jacobo dead from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound.
