Covered California enrollment portal misses target for going back online

The enrollment portion of Covered California, the state's health exchange website, remained down Saturday due to technical issues and was expected to stay down through the rest of the weekend, according to a press release, despite previously saying it would be back up Thursday.

"We apologize for the inconvenience to our consumers and appreciate their patience," Covered California said in the release.

They caution that no consumer data was compromised as part of the issues with the site and said that the cause of the problem was likely a software malfunction that happened during system maintenance on Sunday, Feb. 16.

Engineers have been working around the clock to fix it since it went offline Wednesday, according to the release.

This isn't the first problem to hit the site — just earlier this month, Covered California had to pull a faulty list of which doctors would be available with different plans from the site and didn't announce when or if it would return. It previously pulled that same list last fall when it failed to work at all.

While the ability to enroll remains unavailable, the Shop & Compare Tool remains up to look at what health plans are available — it just remains unclear exactly how soon you'll be able to sign up for one again.
