IRS Extends Tax Deadline (Again) For Most Of California
Topline:
If you haven’t filed your taxes for 2022, take a deep breath because the IRS has (again) postponed the deadline automatically for most California taxpayers to Nov. 16.
Wait, weren’t taxes already due? Yes and no. The tax deadline is usually on April 18. But with the torrent of winter storms earlier this year, many California counties were declared disaster areas, which prompted the IRS to extend the deadline to Oct. 16. Now taxpayers have another month to file — so you can relax on the crunch-time stress.
Who’s included? All California counties, except for Lassen, Modoc and Shasta counties, qualify. As long as the address you’ve provided to the IRS is in one of the affected counties, you’ll automatically get the extension. If you’re not sure if your address is right, contact the IRS.
What types of returns qualify? Individual and business income tax returns and payments that would be normally due on April 18, and a few other tax situations, quarterly estimated tax payment and IRA contributions. And don’t forget, this is for the 2022 tax year.
