The humongous project to widen the 405 Freeway between the 10 and 101 was delayed this week because of the rain. Now that things appear to be calming, Caltrans has released their anticipated construction schedule for the next several days. Pending weather, here are some of the highlights:

  • Work will begin tomorrow night with some lane closures and five northbound on- and off-ramp closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday: Olympic Boulevard/Pico Boulevard on-ramp, Santa Monica Boulevard off-ramps, Moraga Drive on-ramp, Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive on-ramp.
  • Full freeway closure of the 405 north between the 10 and Santa Monica Blvd. on Sunday between 1 and 7 a.m.
  • Full freeway closures on the Westside will continue nightly through Friday.

The full details of all closures are below. I-405 FREEWAY CLOSURES

The closures are necessary to enable striping work as part of the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV, or carpool) lane construction on northbound I-405 between the Santa Monica Freeway (I-10) and the Ventura Freeway (U.S. 101).

Motorists can expect additional closures for the next 4 weeks through the northbound I-405 corridor.

When this project, also known as the Sepulveda Pass widening, is completed in 2013, motorists will be able to use the carpool lane in both directions of I-405 from the San Fernando Valley to Orange County.
