One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

On Monday morning, L.A. Congressman Adam Schiff joined Lyin' Ted and Crooked Hillary in the pantheon of political figures given derogatory monikers by the President of the United States when President Trump attacked Schiff on Twitter.

Schiff is the highest ranking Democrat on the House committee investigating the Trump campaign's ties to Russia. The Congressman fired back less than an hour later (also on Twitter, because America 2017), calling the president out for his frequent TV watching, and asserting that his comments and actions were beneath the dignity of the office. We reached out to Schiff's office to see if he was surprised by the developments and what he thought of the moniker, as well as inquire whether he himself had any favorite TV shows.

Congressman Schiff responded via email:

Were you surprised to be tweeted at by the President? I thought it was probably only a matter of time. I also thought it was, to quote the President, sad.

What do you think of having your own Trump-branded moniker? I would have preferred "overrated" like Hamilton or Jon Stewart, but I suppose it's a badge of honor.

Do you watch TV? What are your favorite shows? Game of Thrones and SNL.
