Trump Goes After L.A. Congressman 'Sleazy Adam Schiff' On Twitter

Sometimes Monday mornings are slow AF, and sometimes they start with the President of the United States of America lashing out at you on Twitter. For Burbank Congressman Adam Schiff, it's been the latter kind of day.
Schiff is the highest ranking Democrat on the House Select Intelligence Committee, which coincidentally happens to be investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian operatives. The President has characterized the investigation as a "witch hunt."
At 6:12 a.m. (9:12 a.m. D.C. time), Schiff joined Lyin' Ted and Crooked Hillary in the pantheon of people given derogatory nicknames by Trump, when the President attacked "Sleazy Adam Schiff" on Twitter. Trump also asserted that the "totally biased" 16-year House veteran spends all of his time on television talking about why the Democrats lost:
Sleazy Adam Schiff, the totally biased Congressman looking into "Russia," spends all of his time on television pushing the Dem loss excuse!

Schiff fired back about 45 minutes later, asserting that the real problem was how much the President watches TV, and adding that his comments and actions were "beneath the dignity of the office."
With respect Mr. President, the problem is how often you watch TV, and that your comments and actions are beneath the dignity of the office. https://t.co/NvZydYbnyW

As noted by Politico, the President's Twitter lashing hews pretty closely to a similar line of attack on Schiff made late last week by top Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway. Conway asserted that Schiff had spent more time appearing on TV than he had on the actual investigation. "They've been on TV more than they’ve been presiding over these hearings,” she said. “I mean, literally, Adam Schiff walks around with a cutout of the Capitol above his head instead of having these hearings.”
At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
