Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

As much as we love a good old-fashioned Oscars watch party at home, maybe you don’t want to host this year. Or you’re looking for an excuse to dress up and hit the city. Or you and your friends just can’t agree if you’re team Barbie or team Oppenheimer.

Read on for five different party options hosted at movie theaters around the city (at wildly different price points).

The Gardena Cinema

This 800-seat family owned movie theater in L.A.’s South Bay is hosting a FREE watch party. The space is vintage and decked out in velvet. Say hello to owner Judy Kim and her wonderful team of volunteers! And if you become a “Friend of Gardena Cinema” — that’s a member of the theater’s nonprofit organization — you might be able to get a free “bubbly adult beverage.” Go get your party on!

Where: The Gardena Cinema – 14948 Crenshaw Blvd., Gardena, CA 90249

When: March 10, Doors open at 1p.m.

Ticket price includes catered appetizers and a glass of champagne, so this party’s 21 and up. Meet some fellow film lovers and fill out a ballot. You might just take home a prize …
