Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

If you haven't been to Hearst Castle in San Simeon, a few hours drive north on the 101 Freeway, it is highly recommended. Not only is it one of the most smoothly operated state parks in California, its history and the ties to Los Angeles' 1920s and 30s lifestyle are eye opening and fascinating.

This week, the museum launched a newly designed website tour with interactive 360 degree views inside and outside the grounds (check out the Castle Tour and Visitor Center Tour). “After viewing the virtual tour of Hearst Castle for the first time, it inspired me to want to take a tour to see more”, noted Hoyt Fields, Museum Director. "Even though I have been associated with the Castle for over the past thirty-five plus years, there is always something seemingly new and exciting that catches my eyes at this fabulous estate”.

LAist visited the Castle twice last year here and here.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
