Freely accessible local news is vital. Please power our reporters and help keep us independent with a donation today.

We get to have a lot more fun with our headlines (as in "Palm Springs Granny Robs Bank While Wearing Floppy Hat," et al) than the folks at more mainstream, big business news outlets. But sometimes, if you catch them at the right time, you can spot a little wink coming from the headline of a post on one of those kinds of sites, like today, at the OC Register, who we can thank for the headline of the day: "Smoke reported at hookah lounge." The actual story isn't funny, though it could have had a far worse outcome: Some hot coals were left to smolder out by the trashcans of a Huntington Beach hookah lounge, prompting firefighters to head out there this morning to check things out. Everything is fine, and the business will just need to make sure they dispose of their coals properly.

Okay, fine. Non-news about non-news about non-news. Unless your heart is as black as that coal, hopefully you at least cracked a smile. Carry on!
