One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

The Golden Globes are upon us. While celebrities will be dressed to the nines in their red carpet wear and get dropped off to the awards show in Beverly Hills in their limos, the rest of us common folk will face some street closures and no-parking zones for a good part of this weekend.

The event will be held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Sunday, but some of the street closures and no-parking zones will go into effect on Saturday. Here are the areas to avoid:

  • The westbound lanes of Santa Monica Blvd will be closed from Wilshire Blvd. to Century Park East on Saturday, Jan. 10 from 5:00 a.m. to midnight on Sunday, Jan. 11.
  • The eastbound lanes of Santa Monica Blvd. will be closed on Sunday, Jan. 11 from 8:00 a.m. to midnight.
  • However, S. Santa Monica Blvd. (aka Little Santa Monica Blvd.) will be open throughout the weekend.
  • Whittier Dr. from Lomitas Ave. to Wilshire Blvd. will be shut off to through traffic on Sunday. For people who live on Whittier Dr. between Wilshire Blvd. and Elevado Ave., they'll be able to gain car access to their street.
  • No parking will be allowed on Whittier Dr. between Lomitas Ave and Wilshire Blvd. on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • No parking will be allowed on Sunday from 6 a.m. to midnight on these streets: Elevado Dr. between Wilshire Blvd. and Walden Dr., Trenton Dr. between Whittier Dr. and Wilshire Blvd., Carmelita Ave. between Wilshire Blvd. and Walden Dr., and Walden Dr. between Santa Monica Blvd. and Whittier Dr.

The Golden Globes will air on NBC on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 5 p.m. PT. Check out the nominees here.

One year ago, Congress voted to defund public media, eliminating a critical $1.7 million from our budget every year going forward. But they couldn’t silence us, and we’re not going anywhere. LAist is now 100% community funded and that means we’re taking our future into our own hands and turning to you to keep local reporting strong.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our nonprofit newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our communities. We are free to follow facts wherever they lead and to hold power to account without fear or favor. Our only loyalty is to our readers and listeners and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen Southern California’s communities.
