Woman is Shot After Running from Gunman and Flagging Down Passing Car

Police are trying to gather information surrounding the shooting of a woman near Santa Monica College after she flagged down a passing driver for a ride, reports City News Service.
The woman was seen desperately trying to flag down cars as she ran from a man who was chasing her on the in the 1800 block of Pico Blvd. in Santa Monica at about 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. A car pulled over, and after it did so, a man approached it and fired several rounds into the vehicle.
The woman was injured, but the driver of the car wasn't hit.
After taking the woman down Pico to Lincoln Ave, the driver pulled over and called for help. Other calls were placed to report the incident as well.
After about an hour, police arrested 31-year-old Waiverly Thomas of Colton. It's still not clear what prompted Thomas to shoot the woman, whose name hasn't been released, or what the pair's relationship is, if any. And, according to officers working on the case, the woman isn't cooperating with the investigation.
