3 Ways To Eat Your Way Through The Weekend

The weekend is so close you can practically taste it. Here are the edible events going on in the next few days to keep you occupied -- and sated, for that matter.
Ugly Sweater Party at Seven Grand:
What's Christmastime without an ugly sweater party? It's practically all we have to denote the holiday season since we keep getting these days of ridiculously hot holiday weather, after all. This Saturday night, Seven Grand Whiskey Bar will host the ultimate Ugly Sweater Party, with bartenders and staff wearing their most heinous holiday gear. Customers who wear holiday sweaters a complimentary cocktail, and there will be a contest for the best (worst?) sweater. Prizes include VIP Whiskey Society Memberships, Drink Chips and a Turkey Fryer. Not bad. You can find out more on their site here.
Annual Toy Drive at The Edison:
Double down with some do-goodery and drinking tonight at the The Edison's Annual Toy Drive. The Edison collects thousands of toys each year for the Midnight Mission, and they're hoping this year will be no different. It's the last night of their toy drive, and if you bring in an unwrapped toy you'll receive a free Babes in Toyland cocktail made with whiskey, Cointreau, maraschino, lemon, and bitters. Everybody wins. You can find out more information on their site here.
Free Bubbles and Bites at Muddy Leek:
Seeing couples' sappy anniversary messages on Facebook can be annoying. But anniversaries aren't always bad. For instance, today and tomorrow in Culver City, Muddy Leek is hosting a little anniversary special, where you'll get a free glass of champagne and nibbles, so long as you say "happy anniversary" to any staff member. If a glass of champs isn't enough -- which, let's be honest, it never is -- you can get bartender Sarah Kay Godot's new cocktail called The Phantom for $8, which honors the spirits that seemed to linger in the building after Muddy Leek moved in that have since peaced out. (Still plenty of booze, though.) The cocktail is made with tequila and sage and orange liqueur, with a candied sage garnish. You can find out more info on their site here.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
