Can't wait for Turkey Day to get your tryptophan fix? Here are some our favorite sammies that feature the bird and all the fixins.

Village Bakery

The Los Feliz cafe's Thanksgiving on a Bun ($9.75) features freshly roasted turkey breast, stuffing, gravy, and fresh cranberry sauce served on a bakery bun. The soft sourdough roll soaks up the gravy quite nicely, and the cranberries are served on the side so as not to get too soggy. The real highlight of the sandwich is the turkey, though. If only your mother-in-law could find a way to make the bird's breast this succulent and juicy.

Capriotti's

Delaware-based sub chain Capriotti's opened their first shop in California a few years ago to much fanfare, and once you try their best-selling Bobbie sammie you'll see why. Though they now have several locations, there's still great care put into their hallmark sandwich. It's made with hand pulled, slow-roasted turkey, cranberry sauce, house made stuffing, and mayo served on a giant roll that can stand up to all the accouterment.

Capriotti's is located at 16101 Ventura Blvd, Encino, (818) 986-2838

Mendocino Farms

The only problem we have with Mendocino Farms is that there are just too many great sandwiches on the menu to choose from. Looking at their chalkboard is the ultimate inner battle. If you can stray from their korubata pork belly bahn mi or modern tuna melt, go for the seasonal turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, sausage stuffing, cranberries, and delicate turkey breast on wheat bread is a winner. But it's only around for a few months, so get your fix while you can.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
