Video Shows Rat Scampering Across Display At Glendale Sprinkles

One visitor to the Americana in Glendale got a nasty surprise when she spotted a rat scampering across a display counter at the Sprinkles store. The incident was captured on (an F-bomb laced) video by YouTube user Drey91214, who uploaded the footage on Saturday.

As noted at KTLA, it's uncertain when, exactly, the video was shot, but it seems that the store was closed for the night. The rat is seen running around a display by the storefront; the display, where cupcakes are stored during business hours, was empty at the time.

Jennifer Warren, a spokesperson at Sprinkles corporate, said in a written message to LAist that, upon learning of the incident, the store was closed and that "a team of food safety experts, as well as our landlord" were consulted. The store has since re-opened.

"In our 12-year history we have maintained a consistent Grade A health department score and have diligently championed a culture of impeccable food safety," wrote Warren, adding, "We are confident the cleanliness of the restaurant exceeds standards and assure our guests this will never happen again."

Sprinkles, as you may recall, sparked off a new level of cupcake frenzy in 2005 when it opened its first store in Beverly Hills. It also introduced to us the world's first cupcake ATM. Today it has 25 locations across 10 U.S. states. The Americana location in Glendale has been open for about three years.
