PETA Plans Another Foie Gras Protest 5 Days Before the Ban
It's no wonder Vinny Dotolo and Jon Shook are heading off to Italy in July. The guys deserve a break after all the heat they've been catching for serving foie gras at their Fairfax restaurant, Animal.
Dotollo and Shook have become a prime targets for PETA protests and animal rights activists, who have done everything from staging demonstrations to making phony reservations for foie-focussed dinners and writing false restaurant reviews. The next protest organized by PETA will take place on Tuesday, June 26 from 5:45- 7 p.m.
But is disturbing customers and the restaurant really necessary considering the ban will go through on July 1?
The foie issue has gotten lots of attention both locally and nationally, with chefs and animal rights activists from around the country weighing in. It's even united LA and San Francisco chefs, bridging the NorCal vs. SoCal divide. It remains to be seen if the California ban will be overturned like it was in Chicago. Like it or not, the date is rapidly approaching, and local media have created lists of where to get your foie fix before the ban goes thru. Will you partake in the farewell dinners, or will you be on the picket line?
