Hip to Be Square: Today Is International Waffle Day
We can thank the Swedes for this food celebration. Timed to be precisely 9 months to the day before Christmas, Våffeldagen (aka International Waffle Day) is the day that celebrates the arrival of spring, and the impending arrival of the Baby Jesus, since March 25th is "the day the Archangel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary that she was pregnant."
Not to be confused with August 24th, which is National Waffle Day (honoring the anniversary of the first US patent for the waffle iron, naturally), today is a day to, well, eat waffles. We dug into our own archives, and the LAist Featured Photos pool for a little inspiration.
