We never thought we'd see the day when a spoof was as good (if not better) than the F--- You Yelper Tumblr blog. But alas, YouTube's Joe Plummer has created a series where real actors read Yelp reviews, with full reenactments of their melodrama and severity. As one of our Tweeps and fellow newsies said, it's only a matter of time before someone turns these treacherous Yelp reviews into a smash Broadway hit entitled, "Yelp: The Musical."

The first installation features actor Chris Kipiniak, who has been on the Good Wife and Law and Order SVU, solemnly read a one-star review of Stratford Diner in Jersey. The reviewer was deeply disturbed by the fact that the management seemed to be hurrying him off the phone when he called in to chat about his broiled crab cake. Wait, someone working in a restaurant was in a rush? Appalling! In the reenactment, Kipiniak even manages to muster up a few fake tears. Comedy gold.

For the second installation, Joe Plummer gets voice actor Therese Plummer (also of The Good Wife and Law and Order SVU) to read a review of Tamarind in London in Newport Beach, which got 4 stars regardless of the fact that the Indian meal "incinerated everything in my intestines." Plummer goes on to say, "The Tandoori Prawns were cooked beautifully, seasoned to perfection, and tore through me with the awesome fury of the horsemen of the apocalypse. Bravo ... My morning was an unforgettable thrill ride ... turning me into a human flame thrower."

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
