Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Earlier this week, we rounded up the best spots to watch the fireworks in L.A., but you surely don't want to go hungry. In case the grillin and chillin wasn't enough to keep you sated, there are plenty of places that can help you pack a little picnic for your Fourth of July adventures. Here's where to get them ready-made.

BRITE SPOT FOR GRAND PARK BLOCK PARTY

Chef Darby Aldaco is making a grown up's version of a happy meal that's perfect for carting over to Dodger Stadium's show or to the newly-opened Grand Park. The picnic box comes with a choice of sandwich, choice of 2 salads, house made BBQ sweet potato chips, a brownie, and a regular or vegan cookie sandwich plus a bottled drink. They will be open on the Fourth, so you can pick up your goods the day-of. Find out more about the diner's offerings here

MARKET ON HOLLY FOR AMERICAFEST AT THE ROSE BOWL

Though the Market on Holly won't be open on the fourth of July itself, they are open until 5 the night before. They've got plenty of house made breads, cheeses and charcuterie in the bodega as well s lovely cold salads that would last overnight. Then pick up a bottle from Everson Royce nearby and you're set. You can find out more information on their site.

ARTISAN CHEESE GALLERY OR SWEET BUTTER FOR STUDIO CITY FOURTH OF JULY FIREWORKS FESTIVAL

If you live in the Studio City area, there are a few options for good picnics. You'll need to do your pick-ups on Wednesday, but there are plenty of stock-able items available that travel well. The Artisan Cheese Gallery has a dizzying selection of cheeses, dried fruits, and charcuterie. The Bistro Garden cold poached salmon, gazpacho, and roasted chicken as a part of their picnic program that would spruce up any basket. You can find out more info here.

STREET FOR HOLLYWOOD BOWL

Though there are plenty of good eats (and a new wine bar) up at the Hollywood Bowl itself, you can also bring goodies from the outside. Susan Feniger's street food steers clear of your standard picnic fare, offering outdoors enthusiasts a unique international experience. Takeaway items include Ethiopian beef stew, Malaysian stir fry noodles, and Japanese potato salad. You can find out more info on their site.

OLIVE AND THYME FOR THE STARLIGHT BOWL AT BURBANK

Olive and Thyme will be fully stocked for pickups on Wednesday. They have a well-curated cheese counter, a great pastry selection, and so many salads you won't know what to do with yourself. We recommend their farro and beet or the cold brussel sprouts with lemon to take to your picnic or party. And don't forget to pick up a bottle of wine while you're at it. Just go ahead of time, because they're closed on the Fourth. For a full menu and pricing, visit their site.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
