Explosives Found in Backpack Under Bridge in Anaheim
Officials who found a backpack under a bridge in Anaheim today later realized that what they stumbled across was a bag full of grenades, black powder and blasting caps, reports the OC Register.
The backpack was spotted under a bridge off Lakeview Avenue near Orangethorpe Avenue this morning, and following an investigation, members of the bomb squad determined that it was placed there intentionally. Between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m., the contents of the backpack were detonated by officials.
Had it gone off on its own, it would have caused significant damage to the bridge, said experts. Meanwhile, they're sweeping the area for any other potential devices.
