This just in: "Dr. Oral Roberts, a legendary evangelist who rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most influential Christian leaders of the 20th century, died today in Newport Beach, Calif., due to complications from pneumonia," according to a press release sent out today. "His son, Richard, and daughter, Roberta, were at his side. The founder of Oral Roberts Evangelistic Association and Oral Roberts University was 91."

A private family internment will be followed by a public memorial service in Tulsa at a date and location to be announced soon.

"Oral Roberts was the greatest man of God I’ve ever known." his son Richard said. "A modern-day apostle of the healing ministry, an author, educator, evangelist, prophet, and innovator, he was the only man of his generation to build a worldwide ministry, an accredited university, and a medical school."

Roberts founded a university in his own name in 1963. The Televangelist was hospitalized on Saturday after a fall, reported the Associated Press yesterday. "Richard Roberts and his wife have denied accusations that they spent university money on vacations, home remodels and other luxuries at a time ORU was $55 million in the red," the news wire additionally noted.
