Video: Jimmy Kimmel On Kanye West's Angry Tweets, 'Finally I'm In A Rap Feud'

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Jimmy Kimmel used his late show monologue to address last night's strange and wonderful series of Tweets from Kanye West. The rapper, apparently angered over a spoof video of kids recreating West's "#1 rock star on the planet" declaration, called Kimmel a "MANIPULATIVE MEDIA MUTHERF***ER" and said he didn't have any "good p***y." Kimmel said, "I don't understand it, I don't know why he's angry again."

Before the show, Kimmel said that West called him. Here's the video:

"Quick question," Jimmy kicked off the show. "Did anyone else get a very angry phone call from Kanye West about an hour and a half ago? Just me? OK, I didn't know if he was mad at all of us."... "He told me I had two choices: apologize publicly...and that was really the only choice!" Jimmy said. "The other choice he gave was that my life—'Your life,' he said, 'is going to be much better if you apologize.' Then he started tweeting today and I don't even know if I've seen some of these tweets, because they're happening as we speak..."

Kimmel went through the Tweets, including, "SHOULD I DO A SPOOF ABOUT YOUR FACE OR YOU FUCKING BEN AFFLECK…#NODISRESPECTTOBENAFFLECK #ALLDISRESPECTTOJIMMYKIMMEL!!!!" but Kimmel pointed out the Affleck one was a spoof. The late show host said, "And he told me this on the phone, I swear, he said, 'I am the most powerful voice in media. I am 'Pac! He said 'I am 'Pac' a few times to me. He said, 'You'll never be able to show your face at a 14-year-old's high school football game and be cool again.' He really is 'Pac. That's right ouf of the Tupac playbook, isn't it?... I don't understand it, I don't know why he's angry again. I thought the bit was pretty innocuous. Finally I'm in a rap feud."

Hopefully West will go back on Twitter to discuss this further!

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
