TV Junkie: The Bitch Is Back
The big three networks are getting their asses handed to them by cable this summer. Last night we had Holly Hunter debut her new show 'Saving Grace' on TNT and tonight we have Glenn Close dishing it out on FX with 'Damages' (Tuesdays @ 10:00 p.m.). I don't know if you saw Close during her season-long stint on FX's 'the Shield' but her performance reinvigorated that series and they're still coasting on her energy. Well it looks like FX gave her enough $$$ and freedom to come back for another go at it.
Close plays high-powered attorney Patty Hewes, who is vicious, uncompromising, unscrupulous, arrogant, and manipulative - and she's the good guy. 'Damages' has been pitched, much like last week's gem by AMC, 'Mad Men', as a series that relies on writing and acting, and like last night's Holly Hunter vehicle, we're just going to have to trust the judgement of an an exceptional actor who has a long history of good decisions.
