TV Junkie: Interview with Thesy Surface aka Margaret McPoyle of 'It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia'
Look at the pic at the bottom of the post, that's one and the same girl: Margaret McPoyle of FX's "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" is played by the beautiful Thesy Surface. For every episode that Margaret appears in, Surface shows up and endures a 1 1/2 to 2 hour "uglification" process in order to be transformed into the greasy (check out the ring around the collar!), unibrowed, hairy upper-lipped Margaret McPoyle. In order to shoot the above video, I met Thesy Surface at a cafe on Sunset Boulvard and we walked down to The Crossroads of the World complex via Selma Avenue. As we walked she told me about how she landed the role of Margaret as well as her other projects. She was game for me shooting as we walked and there we went, myself a perspiring schlub and Thesy, perfect and fresh on what was already a very warm morning.
What threw me off was not only how pretty she is, but also her English accent from growing up in London. Her European connection is still strong as she actively video-blogged about this summer's World Cup, a blog that looks like it might become an ongoing sponsored gig for her. Inspired by the "Sunny" gang, she's had a TV show ("Revivals") optioned and is hard at work on getting it on the air. You can also look for her in the indie film Glory Days, and was in several episodes of "Big News TV". I also felt super-lucky to finally get a tour around the always iconic, yet enigmatic Crossroads of the World center from someone as busy as Thesy Surface. As she has an acting class in the complex she had a key and very kindly led us around the Disneyland-esque environs and we even peered into some of the empty storefronts.
You can attempt to keep up with Surface via her blog or Twitter (@ThesySurface) but you'll have the best chance of seeing her on tonight's season premiere of "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" on FX at 10pm.
Speaking of "Sunny", the soundtrack is now available for purchase at iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody and Spotify, listen below to the opening credits tune, "Temptation Sensation", the wonderfully cheeseball song that is a perfect counterpoint to the unrate-able antics of the show:

At LAist, we believe in journalism without censorship and the right of a free press to speak truth to those in power. Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.
But the game has changed: Congress voted to eliminate funding for public media across the country. Here at LAist that means a loss of $1.7 million in our budget every year. We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.
We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else. Become a monthly member today to help sustain this mission.
Thank you for your generous support and belief in the value of independent news.
