The inaugural edition of The Sex Awards, which is kind of like a People's Choice Awards for porn, was taped in October at Avalon Hollywood.
The event, hosted Jessica Drake, is the first fan-voted porn awards show to air on television: over 100,000 fans cast their votes across 17 categories. The show, produced by X3Sixty Network and AVN Media Network, is set to air this week and the following three months on Showtime. LAist had exclusive all-access to the show and its rehearsal.
The Sex Awards were rather aptly named. During the show, presenters as well as winners kissed, and stars Riley Reid and Riley Steele flashed the cameras while onstage. Afterwards, Ron Jeremy posed for photos with topless women, and there was a sexual act on the red carpet at Bardot in full view of revelers.
Ron Jeremy received the Lifetime Achievement Award and joked that it was "the polite way of saying, 'Get the fuck out.'" Notoriously stage-frightened James Deen won Hottest Adult Stud, while Asa Akira won a trifecta of awards, including Porn's Perfect Girl/Girl Screen Couple (with Jessica Drake), Adult Movie of the Year ("Asa Akira is Insatiable 3"), and Porn Star of the Year.
