Skylight Books is Skrink-la-da-doo!

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

There's so much to do and see this weekend, we don't know where to start. Well, actually we do. This LAist is going to spending lots of quality time at Skylight Books in Los Feliz as they have some eclectic readings and panels we (and you) don't want to miss.

Tonight, that party monster, Wow Report contributor and eternal club kid, James St James, explains it all for you, along with Jennifer Blowdryer, Clint Catalyst, Leonora Claire and Alvin Orloff to sign their latest book, Good Advice for Young Trendy People from Manic D Press.

It's sure to be an eyeful and educational good time.

Then it's Ladies Night on Saturday as the book store hosts a panel on "Beyond Chick-Lit: Busting the Stereotypes and Publishing Limitations of Women Who Write," featuring an amazing line-up of female fiction writers in LA, including Janet Fitch (who we haven't seen around lately, so we're thrilled by this appearance), Susan Straight, Kate Gale, Nina Revoyr and Leslie Schwartz.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
