Video: Ronda Rousey Says She Contemplated Suicide After Loss To Holly Holm
UFC fighter Ronda Rousey admitted that, after her stunning loss to Holly Holm, she had suicidal thoughts running through her mind.
On Tuesday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Rousey's first talk show appearance since her loss, the fighter opened up about the match and its fallout. She says after she was "clipped" by Holm in the first round, she cut open her mouth and had some of her teeth knocked loose. That blow seems to have given Rousey a concussion. She goes on to describe losing her depth-perception as the fight continued, saying she was "swinging blindly" at Holm.
DeGeneres goes on to ask Rousey if she was concerned that her injuries might have ended her fighting career. But Rousey admits that her thoughts were in a much darker place:
In the medical room... I was sitting in the corner, I was like "What am I anymore if I'm not this?" I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself, and that exact second I'm like, "I'm nothing. What do I do anymore? And no one gives a shit about me anymore without this."
To be honest, I looked up and I saw my man—Travis—was standing up there and I looked up at him and I was like, I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive.
I haven't told anybody that. I think I only told him that.
Contemplating suicide seems like an extreme place to go when you lose a fight (even when it's your very first loss, as it was for Rousey), but don't forget that repeatedly getting hit in the head can do some very weird things to your brain.
DeGeneres commends Rousey for her bravery and honesty. "I'm grateful you did say that," says the host.

Rousey goes on to say that she wants a rematch with Holly Holm. "I wanna beat her and make everything right again."
