Photo: The Late Lauren Bacall And Marilyn Monroe Behind The Scenes, Taken By Sammy Davis, Jr.
The world mourned the loss of two iconic film stars the past week, with Robin Williams tragically taking his own life and Lauren Bacall passing away the very next day.The wonderful film news aggregator Keyframe Daily unearthed a candid shot of the late Bacall along with the one of the few Hollywood stars who could hold a candle to her stature, Marilyn Monroe. The two are pictured sharing a loose moment on the set of 1953's How To Marry A Millionaire. Not pictured is their co-star Betty Grable, but her presence is noted with the nameplate on her vanity. As commenter isleoftiki has pointed out, this is actually a cropped version of the original photo, and Grable can be seen enjoying a smoke off to the side.
It's quite a remarkable shot, as the two women seemed to be letting their guard down away from the limelight. Also of note, it is none other than Rat Pack member Sammy Davis, Jr. who snapped the photo. Davis was an avid photographer, and his collection of rare and candid shots of megastars of the past has been collected and cataloged in the book Photo By Sammy Davis, Jr..
