Pets of the Week: Kitty Luna and Chihuahuas Lady & April

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Luna is a 2-year old cat who's sure to blossom in a home where she is the center of attention. A somewhat shy girl, Luna craves the company of one or two main people to bond with, who will dote on her but who also appreciate that sometimes she just wants to be alone (don't we all?). Luna is playful and loves older male cats, so if you've got a boy in need of a playmate, Luna is sure to get along with her new brother and keep him entertained. This beautiful grey and white gal can be seen at Sante D'or every Friday through Sunday noon to 5pm, or come by Furry Friday, their extended hours May 25th 5pm-9pm. Location and pet adoption information can be found on their website.

Lady and April, came to the Voice for the Animals Foundation with a litter of puppies. Over the past few months these sweet girls have watched and waited patiently while each of their eight puppies found a forever home, but are still waiting for a home of their own. Lady has beautiful soulful eyes and April hops around at your feet wanting pets and kisses. They are the perfect duo and will bring such joy to any family or individual.

Lady and April are Chihuahua mixes. Lady who is 5 years old, is the mother to April, who is 2 years old. They are incredibly bonded and need to be adopted together. The ladies are good with children and dogs, but would prefer a household without cats. They are potty trained and recently learned how to use a doggy door.

If you would like meet Lady and April, email Voice for the Animals' Director of Adoptions and Rescue, Gabriela Garcia at adoption@vftafoundation.org or call (310) 392-5153.

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
