MUSIC
Barre's newest resident, Jackie Tohn's, "There's a Big Show in Here" is more animated than a Saturday morning cartoon, funnier than a barrel of funny things and is clinically proven to stop your spring doldrums in a single bound. A musical story of guts and glory, the voice that launched a thousand, "Wow I wish I could sing like thats" is all yours, for a limited time. Wednesday April 13th, 27th & May 11th at Show at Barre, 1714 N. Vermont, tickets $10.

RUNNING
The Nike+ She Runs LA 10K starts today. Participants can run (or jog) their 10K independently anytime between 4 p.m. today and 4 p.m. Thursday. And, yes, HE can run too. The entertainment takes place tonight at L.A. Live, where KIIS-FM personalities emcee entertainment from 7-10 p.m. including a live music performance by Mike Posner, America's Best Dance Crew winners We Are Heroes, and 3 floors of "pampering and fun."

She Runs LA benefits Students Run LA, which provides access to the sport of running to at-risk youth in the Los Angeles community. Registration is $35.00 with current high school or college student ID and $40.00 general public.

FILM
ProjectFresh presents a special screening of Skid Row, the 2007 film in which Pras from The Fugees documents his nine-day experience posing as a homeless person on Skid Row. Proceeds will go to supporting the cause and helping to spread the film's eye-opening message. After the screening there will be a Q+A with special guests including Pras Michel of the Fugees (via Skype)

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
