Indie Music Venue Pehrspace Receives 60-Day Notice To Vacate
It has been a bad month for independent, D.I.Y. venues in Los Angeles. On Monday, Pehrspace—a not-for-profit, all-ages art space and concert venue in Historic Filipinotown—received a 60-day notice that the lease on their space at 325 Glendale Blvd. would be coming to an end. The notice comes just over a week since downtown's The Smell received a notice that their building could possibly be demolished.
Pehrspace originally opened in 2006 as the offices for The Pehr Label, but in the decade since it has transformed into a multipurpose concert venue, art gallery, rehearsal space and has even hosted "experimental cinema nights, free clothes swaps [and] craft fairs," according to KCET.
On Friday, Pehrspace mentioned on their Tumblr that their building (in the Glen Village strip mall) had been sold for $8 million, to which they reacted simply with the hashtag "#nervous."
LAist has reached out to Pehrspace manager Pauline Lay for comment, but has not yet received a response.
