Photos: A Planned Alien-Themed Hotel In The Middle Of The Desert

Have you ever stopped by Baker on your way to Las Vegas and thought to yourself, "What this really needs is an alien-themed hotel?" Well, then you are in luck.

Baker, population 735, is a popular place for travelers to stop when moving between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Its has a couple gas stations, lots of fast food, a giant thermometer and an abandoned, Hawaiian-themed motel. It's also home to Alien Fresh Jerky, the owner of which—Luis Ramallo—has a dream to create a spaceship-shaped, alien-themed hotel to match. He's raising preliminary funding for the hotel via Kickstarter.

This won't be a cheesy, cheap motel with a heart-shaped hot tub and an "I Want To Believe" poster on the wall. No, the plans for this hotel are epic, with 31 spectacularly themed rooms starting at $300 per night.

The hotel will also contain a restaurant, spa and pool. You will enter the hotel via a portal—you know, like a stargate. You can also get married there and explore the otherworldly grounds of the property.

And that's not all: Ramello wants to build an entire alien colony in Baker that also includes a mall and a venue for outdoor concerts. This would effectively turn Baker into a high-tech version of Roswell—a resort for sci-fi fans and conspiracy theorists.

Funds are currently being raised for the motel via Kickstarter, with $846 of the $175,000 goal raised. It's going to take a lot more than that to realize Ramallo's vision, but this initial round of funding would get the ball rolling. A gift of $10,000 allows you to be the first human to sleep in one of the rooms.

Baker also recently got its giant thermometer turned back on after several years of inactivity. Maybe it's time for a Baker renaissance.
