Malia Obama May Be Harvey Weinstein's New Intern
Let's say you've spent your formative years growing up at the White House, you've become a role model for young women everywhere, and you have decided to take a gap year before starting at a new life at Harvard University. How would you spend your time in between? By interning for Harvey Weinstein, of course.
The New York Post's Page Six has reported that Malia Obama is rumored to be taking an internship with the notoriously cantankerous Hollywood producer. It is not known whether the internship is formalized or not, but "sources buzzed about the gig before inaugural weekend," added Page Six.
In 2015, Malia was an intern on HBO's Girls. Photos of Malia fetching coffee around Brooklyn for the cast and crew swirled around the Internet.
“She’s a fan, and she mentioned that to Lena [Dunham] when she came to the White House,” a source "close to production" told US Weekly. “I’m not sure how long she’ll be interning for. It’s a bit of a trial thing for her. They’ve known each other and discussed for a while. Lena and her get along great.”
In 2014, Malia spent time as a production assistant on the short-lived CBS series Extant.
“She helped with computer shop alignments and the director also let her slate a take,” an anonymous source told The Wrap of Malia's time with the production.
If Malia is indeed headed off to work for Harvey Weinstein (likely in marketing or development, according to The Hollywood Reporter) it should be noted that the Hollywood mogul was a major donor to Obama's two campaigns.
