LAst Laugh: This Week in Comedy

Congress has cut federal funding for public media — a $3.4 million loss for LAist. We count on readers like you to protect our nonprofit newsroom. Become a monthly member and sustain local journalism.

Hey folks! We're in the thick of the summer, so there shouldn't be any excuse to not get out and experience some live shows in the flesh. This week alone, there are fantastic shows featuring Louis C.K., Larry Miller, Bob Saget, Fred Armisen, and Craig Robinson. Don't front, you like at least two of those dudes.

And for those purists at heart, there are the usual improv showcase shows, What's Up, Tiger Lily? has another great stand up show in the chamber for Monday night, and the rise of the Benson Interruption. All in all, it's a great week for comedy, so get out and enjoy!

As always, if you'd like to try to get a show listed here, email me and we'll talk.

MONDAY 7/12

Tiger Lily, 8p Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill. Duncan Trussell, Bil Dwyer, Kumail Nanjiani, Jon Daly, Andy Kindler, Ron Babcock... God, Tiger Lily just does stand up right.

Benson Interruption, 9p Largo. According to his twitter page, Doug says Benson Interruption is going to be headed to Comedy Central soon. Better see it live while you still can.

TUESDAY 7/13

Local 132, 9p iO West. Local 132 and USS Rock N’ Roll are still sharing this hilarious hour of Harold madness over at iO.

Pete Holmes, 10p Hollywood Improv. Fantastic stand up from the great Pete Holmes.

WEDNESDAY 7/14

Dirty Jokes, Clean Water, 8p Laugh Factory. Get ready for a filthy night of comedy with Bob Saget, Al Madrigal and others to raise money for nonprofit organization Generosity Water.

Fred Armisen & Friends, 9p Largo. Armisen is a longtime Largo staple, so it’s good to see him get back on stage with some special comedy friends.

THURSDAY 7/15

Eddie Pepitone, 10p Hollywood Improv. While definitely not for everyone, Eddie has a certain charm you just can’t deny. That is to say, it’s charming how angry stuff makes him.

Fat/Magic Bear, 11p iO West. The FMB crew killed it at the Cherry Crush improv cagematch shows, and are being rewarded here with their own mainstage slot. Don’t let yourselves be the ones who disappoint them.

FRIDAY 7/16

WTF?! With Marc Maron, 8p UCB. Craig Robinson, Matt Besser and more stop by UCB to help Marc out with his highly successful podcast.

Let’s Do This!, 11p UCB. It’s MASH UP time, as the wonderful Amanda & Jennie have pulled up 20 of their favorite performers from the UCB ranks to join teams for one night (plus audience members) for one hell of an improv jam session.

SATURDAY 7/17

Ted Dancin’, 10p iO West. Not only is the team name a winner, but the Dancin’ crew have the combined improv comedy chops to keep you laughing for cheap ($5).

Louis C.K., 10p Ice House. Holy f*ck! Louis C.K. is doing one show at the Ice House. Get these tickets before the riots break out.

SUNDAY 7/18

Crashbar, 7p Impro Theater. This longstanding improv showcase show has moved locations and timeslots, but their lineups continue to amaze. Check out some of the best in indie improv.

Larry Miller, 7p Irvine Improv. This is the close-out show for Larry, who’ll be around all weekend telling funny stories (mostly).

As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.

Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.

We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.

Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.

Thank you for your generous support and believing in independent news.
