Larry David Unleashes Himself In Hilarious 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' Trailer
Arguments over PDA, constipation excuses, yoohooing judges, crying etiquette, broken shoelaces, and bus confrontations—social assassin Larry David is finally back for a new season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, and we never want him to leave again. Watch the latest trailer, with actual footage from the new season, below. It's... pretty, pretty, pretty good.
Season nine kicks off on October 1st after a five-year hiatus during which David made a movie for HBO, starred on Broadway, and took to SNL to play his distant relative, Bernie Sanders. Still, nothing is quite as good as having Curb back. Executive producer Jeff Schaffer told Variety that the new season picks up in real time, five years after the end of season eight in which Larry and Leon went to Paris after Larry was ceremonially kicked out of NYC.
"What he’s been doing provides the jumping off point for the insane first half of the season that gets much crazier in the second half," Schaffer said. "These are dark times, and pettiness, like freedom, dies in darkness. So this season is dense and full and big because there’s been a five-year log-jam of indignities and violations of etiquette. He’s been hoarding indiscretions like Scrooge McDuck, and now he’s finally going to let them all out."
Guest stars this season include Elizabeth Banks, Nick Offerman, Nasim Pedrad, Lauren Graham, Elizabeth Perkins, Andrea Savage, Carrie Brownstein, and Bryan Cranston (playing Larry's therapist); returning guests include frenemies Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen, the beleaguered Marty Funkhauser (Bob Einstein), ex-wife Cheryl David (aka Cheryl Hines), the aforementioned Leon (JB Smoove), Susie Essman, Jeff Garlin and Richard Lewis.
If you really want to get in the mood for new Curb, I strongly recommend you check out the new podcast, Origins, with author James Andrew Miller (Those Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN, Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live). The first five episodes are devoted to tracing the history of Curb, and include plenty of amazing insights into Larry's comedy process, as well as behind-the-scenes stories.
