LAist Film Calendar: This Big Bird's No Turkey!

If you aren't one for turkey, the Aero screens Singin' In The Rain Thanksgiving Day with an introduction from Gene Kelly's widow Patricia. While that's Thursday's lone screening, the rest of the weekend is stuffed with classics and Muppet Magic.

Shemps real and fake will soitenly head to Glendale's Alex Theatre for the 13th annual Three Stooges Big Screen Event. The line up sports five Stooge shorts, book-ended with rarities for the true knuckleheads.

Back at the Aero, a double bill of delectable pairs plays Saturday with It Happened One Night and My Man Godfrey. Sunday, the theater takes two trips down the yellow brick road, with a sparkling print of Wizard of Oz at 4PM, and the '80s pseudo-sequel Return to Oz at 7:30. The two are separate admissions, but Return to Oz features a discussion with its director Walter Murch and A History of Violence scribe Josh Olson.

If you prefer your pumpkin heads with pajama parties, Return to Oz also screens Saturday on a double bill with fellow fantasy Labyrinth at the Cinefamily. Bowie's goblin army is but one brigade in Cinefamily's Muppet invasion. Friday boasts two programs of Muppet History, the early television appearances and commercials where Jim Henson refined his craft and introduced the frogs, dogs and furry monsters we still treasure today. These shows sell out so quickly that the Cinefamily's already booked back-to-back encores!

Saturday's Milestones on the Street traces 40 years of Sesame Street, with births, deaths, joy, heartache, and the show's very first episode. Inside the Sesame Street Vault digs a little deeper into rare footage of Jim Henson's creative team through special clips and interviews. Sunday afternoon spotlights the do-re-mi of Sesame with The Music of Sesame Street, featuring the show's original songs and musical guests spanning all genres. The Muppet mania caps off with a screening of Follow That Bird, Sesame Street's star-studded first movie.
