LAist Film Calendar 05/26-05/29: Outdoor Screenings All Memorial Day Weekend!

Our reporting is free for everyone, but it’s not free to make.

It hasn't felt much like summer lately, but there's something about Memorial Day: time to enjoy some screenings under the stars! The 2011 season of Outdoor Cinema Food Fest begins Saturday at LA State Historic Park with the Farrelly Brothers classic There's Something About Mary. The all-evening event also features a shorts program from Funny or Die, a live performance from Glen Iris & food trucks galore! Tickets are $10. BYOB - bring your own blanket.

Should you prefer leers to laughs, there's plenty of thrills outside the cinema as well. You won't find Alfred Hitchcock buried at Hollywood Forever, but Cinespia continues its 10th year of summer cemetery screenings by unearthing his classic Vertigo. Devil's Night features another auteur at their downtown drive-in, with Stanley Kubrick's Lolita. On Memorial Day itself, the Cinefamily hosts the most suspenseful event of all: their annual "5 Minutes Game" BBQ. The first 5 minutes of 15 films will be shown, with the audience selecting one to screen in its entirety. For a different flavor, Umami Burger at Space15Twenty has their own meaty mystery movie.

4th Street Long Beach kicks off a new monthly series, Watch This Book, with To Kill A Mockingbird. The Academy Award winning adaptation screens for free as part of the monthly "Last Saturdays" art show & street fair. While it may be an indoor event, the Transgender Film Festival definitely allows for a walk on the wild side. Subtitled "Naughty Bits", the adults-only roadshow brings its explosive, explicit energy to Echo Park Film Center with trans porn stars & plenty of kink. The $15 admission includes two drinks.

Full list appears below. See you at the movies!
