LAist Film Calendar 02/10-02/14: Cinema Plays Cupid All Valentine's Weekend

Love is in the air, but since Valentine's Day falls on a Monday, this weekend is cupid's best shot at dinner & a movie. The Egyptian Theatre boasts Harold and Maude, a pairing of The African Queen & From Here to Eternity, Doctor Zhivago and even the throbbing hearts of Beatlemania. Its Santa Monica soulmate, the Aero, goes double dutch with The Princess Bride & The Notebook, Casablanca & Double Indemnity, and rounds out the romantics with Gone With The Wind and Breakfast At Tiffany's. This is but a taste of the cinematic lovefest.

Cliche has it the French are masters of l'amour. Let's not forget that they've also mastered l'arts de cinéma. Thursday, Cinefamily mates the New Wave love triangle Jules and Jim with spunky darling Amelie. Saturday, they dig a little deeper with Love In The Afternoon, before going interspecies with Pepe le Pew & his crew for a Sunday of Valentoons. The New Bev goes big with Moulin Rouge & Marie Antoinette, and goes bleak with crime film Inspector Bellamy & colonial drama White Material. Even Insomniac Cinema gets in on the game with those who come from France, The Coneheads.

If you're already sick of the lovey dovey, head with guns blazing to the Autry for The Searchers. The John Wayne classic screens as part of their "What Is A Western?" series, which explores cinematic and cultural issues of the Old West. Share the art of rainbows (and what's on the other side) at a free screening of The Muppet Movie at the Hammer Museum. Or take a spin right round to the Echo Park Film Center, where artist Melody Owen curates Circles and Spinning Wheels, a program of animation, experimental film, documentary and music videos celebrating 360 degrees of circles & spheres.

Full list appears below. See you at the movies!
