'Hannibal' Season 3 Trailer Proves That Not Everybody Died
Hannibal is about to return for Season 3, and the new trailer shows plenty of the brutal cannibal, Gillian Anderson and also introduces a notorious character from the novels.
NBC's Hannibal returns on June 4. The series acts as a prequel to the events in Thomas Harris' trilogy surrounding cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter. When the Season 2 finale came to a close, the fates of our heroes—the FBI's Jack Crawford (Laurence Fishburne), Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) and Alana Bloom (Caroline Dhavernas)—seemed nothing but grim. We also learned that Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) was on a plane out of the U.S. with his psychiatrist, Bedelia Du Maurier (Gillian Anderson).
The promos for Season 3 features the cast talking about the upcoming episodes. It also seems to ensure that our heroes have survived, and shows Lecter and Du Maurier living it up as socialites in Europe, TVLine reports. Lecter and Du Maurier are posing as husband and wife, and a cheery Lecter says he's "hardly killed anyone" since they've gone on the lam. It's unclear as to how involved Du Maurier is in Lecter's depravities. "She could be as dark as Hannibal," Anderson says. "But you don't know."
Fans of the novels may also be excited to see Francis Dolarhyde, the titular killer in Red Dragon, emerge. Actor Richard Armitage (The Hobbit) will be portraying the gruesome killer, and notes in the promo that he had to read up on the character after accepting the role. Spoiler alert: Dolarhyde's not a nice guy.
That trajectory of the season might seem obvious to fans of the novels or films, but Fishburne assures viewers that, "Even though [people] know what's coming, they don't know what's coming."
A second promo was also released, insinuating that Graham is hot on Lecter's trail.
