Get Out: Taste of Abbot Kinney, Indonesian Dance & Red Hen Press Reading

READING: Today Red Hen Press is hosting a reading at featuring Rodney Wittwer, Gary Lemons, Peggy Dobreer, Alice Derry, Murat Nemet-Nejat, with musical guest Jared Burton. Charles Hood will moderate. The reading begins at 2 pm at Ruskin Art Club, which is located 800 S. Plymouth Boulevard. Admissions is $10, and $5 for students and seniors.

DANCE: This week Indonesian choreographer Ery Mefri and his company Nan Jombang have been performing "Rantau Berbisik (Whisperings of Exile)" at REDCAT. The dance depicts a long-observed rite of passage for young men as they leave their native villages for the "wider world." For more information, check out our write-up. Today's matinee performance is at 3 pm, and you can purchase tickets at the REDCAT's website.

FOOD: Today is the "Taste of Abbot Kinney," a food-tasting fundraiser for the after-school arts program Inside Out Community Arts. There are VIP receptions and pre-tastings from 3 pm until 4 pm, but the walking tour tastings begin at 4:30 pm. Check-in is at Boardriders at 585 Venice Boulevard. Tickets are limited to 500 people.
