Photos: Flea Of The Red Hot Chili Peppers Is Really Into Bees Now
Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea is a man who wears many hats: actor, sports fan, philanthropist. Now you can add beekeeper's veil to that list.
According to TMZ, the musician had three beehives installed in his backyard last month, each home to about 60,000 bees.
Urban beekeeping is technically illegal in Los Angeles, but back in May the L.A. City Planning Commission approved an ordinance that would legalize the hobby and the City Council is expected to approve it by the end of the year. Beekeeping is legal in Santa Monica.
Sadly, bees have been mysteriously dying across the globe from something scientists call colony collapse disorder. Bees are very wonderful and important animals, so we applaud Flea's efforts to keep them buzzing.
